And like me, you maybe didn’t have any evidence of a healthy, happy relationship in your life. Toxic friendships, divorced parents and constant arguing is sadly the norm. But it doesn’t have to be. In this post we’ll look at 3 ways you can use your Human Design to be present in your relationships and create authentic connections in all areas of life.
Human Design can guide you into the correct relationships. Putting you in control of your life and creating the relationships you’ve always dreamed of.
You deserve to have happy romantic relationships, loving and supportive friendships. And you deserve the tools to communicate how you wish to be treated. Human Design can provide you with all of this.
Whether you’ve never truly experienced an authentic relationship before, or you’re ready to kick the last of your unhealthy relationship patterns, this post has something for you.
First we’ll look at what Human Design has to say about relationships, before diving into the compatibility of Incarnation crosses, major circuitry and definition.
Human Design Relationships – partnership analysis and compatibility
Before you run your compatibility chart! Remember: It’s all potential!
First of all, all things Human Design are potential energies. Potential power, potential friction. The same goes for your relationship connection charts. They only speak to a potential. Do not let what Human Design says override how you feel in your real life, nuanced, differentiated experience.
E.g. My partner and I on paper in a connection chart are pretty incompatible. With many areas of tension and potential not-self. However in real life we are best friends, conscious in our relationship and communicate our needs. And because of this we are perfectly beautifully happy. You have the power here, not the system.
Seeking “Sameness” in Human Design Relationships.
According to Human Design the more similarities 2 auras share the more compatible they could be due to being able to understand similar energies.
The same types have the same aura and move through the world the same way. In theory 2 Generators in relationship, 2 Projectors in connection or 2 Manifestors in a partnership are compatible.
The same authorities bring a similarity in speed of decision making. It may be seen as more compatible when a partnership creates a new authority when in relationship than they each have alone.
You can also find “sameness” in the profile lines, the angle of the crosses, your definition and major circuitry in your charts too.
But in reality we are all so very different.
That is why this is the science of differentiation. Even if you have two 1/4 sacral generators with tribal circuitry. They are both researching different topics (1st line), connecting with different networks (4th line), responding to what lights them up as individuals (generators) and providing for their chosen family (tribal).
3 Ways to Use Human Design to Create Deep Authentic Relationships
The Angle of Your Incarnation Cross
The angle of your cross tells you how you are designed to come at life. What is your attack mode? What is your job here? And this falls into 3 categories: Right Angle, Left Angle and Juxtaposition cross. Each has a very different role in humanity.
Right Angle Cross
The right angle cross profiles are: 1/3, 1/4, 2/4, 2/5, 3/5, 3/6, 4/6.
These profiles have a personal destiny or karma. Their life is designed to be very internal focused, always having their needs, desires and opportunities at the forefront of their experience. The right angle crosses of the world are here to just be in life, being themselves and collecting whatever wisdom they learn along the way.
You can think of them as the research & development department of human life.
It is normal for them to be beautifully self-centered. And this sometimes leads to a lack of awareness of others and/or their impact.
Left Angle Cross
The left angle cross profiles are: 5/1, 5/2, 6/2, 6/3.
These profiles have a transpersonal destiny or karma. They are designed to connect with other people. It is said that they have connections from past lives they are here to work through. The left angle crosses of the world are wired to get their message, wisdom and knowledge to the other. This will be the first thing on their mind when they learn something new.
You can think of them as the marketing & outreach department of life.
Juxtaposition Cross – 4/1
Only one profile falls into this category, being roughly 3% of the population. The 4/1 has a fixed fate. They are fixed in their characters and their destiny.
The 4/1s of life are the bridge between the research & development department and the marketing & outreach department. They are here to connect to their fixed network to share their fixed knowledge.
So what does this mean in a Human Design relationship?
Well, if you have 2 right angle crosses in connection, they’re both going to be very “self” and “I” focused because that is their destiny. This sameness may work well but it’s important that they remember to make time to prioritize the other too.
With a right angle in connection with a left angle, one is inwardly focused, one is outwardly focused. This has the capacity to cause some deep tension. The right angle may be labelled as “selfish” in comparison to the left angle’s “selfless” behaviour.
A juxtaposition may be judged or projected on from other angles for being too rigid in their connections or experiences.
The key here is awareness of how each other are wired. You and your partner may approach the world in very different ways. No angle is morally better than the other.
Learning to respect that you may be very self-centered as a right-angle and knowing that you may need to put in extra effort to prioritize the needs of your partner could be important. As a left angle, you may be very aware of your partner’s needs but need more of a reminder to focus on your desires too.
We are all here to balance each other out.
Your Major Circuitry Placements

Every single gate and channel falls into one of the 3 circuits in Human Design. There are the Collective, Individual and Tribal circuits.
Your major circuitry placements and your channels are going to have a big impact on the way you move through life.
In a nutshell the individual circuit creates new and innovative ideas for life, the collective circuit tests them out to see if they are viable, and if they are, the new information is used to support the community in the tribal circuit.
Where you major placements live is going to manifest in how you show up in the world, where you see your place in the greater scheme of life and how you feel others should support/not support each other to achieve your idea of a perfect society.
If you have lots of individual circuitry, you are naturally wired to focus on yourself, your ideas, your impulses and showing up in the world exactly as you are in each moment. It is the freedom to be yourself that allows these new ideas to flow into the world. Think “I” and “me”.
If you have lots of collective placements, you are naturally wired to think about the greater collective community. Constantly thinking about what you’ve learned or witnessed and how that can support our progress as humanity. The focus here is more, “us” and “ours”.
With tribal circuitry placements, you’re naturally wired to ensure your small kinship is provided for. Think of a close and chosen family. You are wired to take a very caring approach to life, but very much focused on “me & mine”.
When similar circuitry themes show up in relationships, we see the sameness and once again see the world in the same way.
If you have differing major themes you may find some tension. A collective circuitry human may see a tribal circuit human as selfish for only worrying about their close family and nobody else.
An individual circuit human may be labelled unrealistic for their constant innovation and new (sometimes weird) ideas.
Again, this comes back to awareness. Neither view of the world is better than the other.
Knowing when a conversation has gone too far can be key when thinking of circuitry dynamics.
You will never convince a tribal circuitry person that they should think about humanity as a whole. And you will never convince a collective circuitry human that they should focus only on their close friends and family. (I say this from experience).
It is when all the circuits come together than we create the beautiful pyramid that supports our collective, familial and individual existence!
Do you have a different Definition?
Definition in your bodygraph shows you how many internal circuits of energy you have. If tells you if all of your defined centers are connected to each other, or if there are breaks in the energy movement.
The less breaks there are the quicker you process information.
A single definition bodygraph has all their defined centers connected to each other via channels (though these channels might pass through other centers too). Therefore they process energy and information very quickly as all areas of their energy can talk to each other in an instant without any energetic input from other people.
The other definitions have splits, or breaks between the mini circuits of energy and connected centers. The more breaks in the definition split (1 break, 2 circuits of connected energy centers), triple (2 breaks, 3 circuits of connected energy centers), quad (3 breaks, 4 circuits of connected energy centers), the more time the person may need to process information and come to a conclusion.
This is essential to know when in relationship with another. If you are single definition with a triple split partner, know that they will need more time, and possibly connect to more people before coming to a conclusion. Do not pressure them to find their end point any faster.
If you are a quad split definition with a single split friend. You will need more time to process and distil energy than they will. They might be able to process with just you, if you bridge their split gate/channel, but you will likely need to be in aura with more than one person. Do not pressure yourself to find an answer soon.
There are an endless amount of ways you can use Human Design to create conscious relationships, friendships and business partnerships. Hopefully these 3 ways will help you to honour your unique energy and create space for the energy of those in your life who may have a different profile angle, circuitry theme or definition.
